Established in 1929, the LSAU is dedicated to promoting the enjoyment of athletics in secondary schools, thus enhancing the moral and physical welfare of children, by providing the right environment so that hidden talent can be discovered and visible talent can be encouraged. It achieves this aim by organising some of the premier events in the province.

We also organise coaching clinics, regional juvenile squad days and coaching courses in conjunction with Athletics Ireland since 2007.

Many of our international athletes past and present have all started their athletics careers through Leinster Schools competitions. Of the 2004 Irish Olympic Games team in Athens, both James Nolan and Maria Mc Cambridge competed at the Leinster Schools. No fewer than 8 former Leinster schools athletes made up the 2008 Irish Olympics team in Beijing - David Gillick (400m), Roisin Mc Gettigan (3000mS/C), Fionnuala Britton (3000m S/C), Eileen O Keefe (Hammer), Joanne Cuddihy (400m), Michelle Carey (400mH), Thomas Chamney (1500m) and Martin Fagan (Marathon).

At every European Cross Country Championships since 2004, more than 50% of every Irish team selected have competed at the Leinster Schools cross country championships. Most recently; 19 of our athletes competed at the European Championships in Brussels in December 2008 - Alan McCormack, Martin Fagan, Andrew Ledwith, Mark Christie, Deirdre Byrne, Hazel Murphy, Richie Yeates, Mick Clohisey, John Coghlan, Linda Byrne, Ciara Durkan, Aisling Baker, Rose-Anne Galligan, Michael Mulhare, David Flynn, Sara Treacy, Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll, Rebecca Ffrench O'Carroll and Tara Jameson. WE LOOK FORWARD TO A SIMILAR TREND IN THE YEARS AHEAD!!
