Established in 1929, the LSAU is dedicated to promoting the enjoyment of athletics in secondary schools, thus enhancing the moral and physical welfare of children, by providing the right environment so that hidden talent can be discovered and visible talent can be encouraged. It achieves this aim by organising some of the premier events in the province.

We also organise coaching clinics, regional juvenile squad days and coaching courses.

Many of our international athletes past and present have all started their athletics careers through Leinster Schools competitions. At the 2004 World Indoor Championships, 6 athletes from the Irish team competed with distinction at Leinster Schools. These included: Ciara Sheehy, Karen Shinkins, Joanne Cuddihy, David McCarthy, Robert Daly and James Nolan. In addition, James Nolan and Maria McCambridge competed at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

At the European Cross Country Championships held in Germany in 2004,10 of the 12 chosen athletes representing Ireland have competed in the Leinster Schools. These included: Roseanne Galligan, Linda Byrne, Tracey Williams, Aisling Baker, Aoife Talty, Breffni Twohig, Mark Christie, Andrew Ledwith, Danny Darcy and Joe Sweeney. Mark, Andrew, Danny and Joe helped the team to European Junior silver medal team success.

During the Summer 2005 track and field season, many of our athletes competes with great distinction at the European Youth Olympics, the European Junior T&F Champs and the World Student Games. Eoin Healy, Colin Costello, Danny Darcy and Emily Maher were medal winners at these championships.
